When it comes to planning your dream wedding, one of the most important decisions you’ll make is picking the perfect time of year. In Georgia, the weather can be unpredictable, so it’s crucial to consider the seasons. As an Atlanta based wedding photographer, one of the biggest questions I’m asked is what is the best time of year to get married in Georgia? Let’s explore the options.
Spring is an exquisite season to tie the knot in Georgia. The landscapes come alive with blooming flowers and trees, painting a picture-perfect backdrop for your special day. Spring weddings typically take place from mid-March to mid-June, with temperatures ranging from an average low of 65 degrees F (18 C) to an average high of 80 degrees F (26 C). The weather is usually pleasant during this season, but keep in mind that allergies might be a concern. Make sure to have some Claritin and Zyrtec on hand, just in case.
During the summer months, the options for your wedding location in Georgia are limitless. Whether you envision a romantic forest setting, a picturesque seaside ceremony, a breathtaking mountain backdrop, or a charming lakeside pier, you’ll find the perfect venue to fulfill your dreams. I’ll be writing a blog post on some of my favorite venues in Georgia so stay tuned!
If you’re a fan of warm weather and long daylight hours, a summer wedding in Georgia is perfect for you. However, brace yourself for the hottest and most humid temperatures of the year. The summer season in Georgia spans from June to August, with average lows of 80 degrees F (26 C) and average highs of 95 degrees F (35 C). Afternoon rain showers are also common during this time, so be sure to have a rain backup plan. Don’t miss the opportunity to capture breathtaking sunset portraits during your reception. The golden glow of the evening light will create stunning memories.
Fall is a beloved season in Georgia, known for its comfortable temperatures and vibrant colors. The temperature ranges from an average low of 55 degrees F (12 C) to an average high of 75 degrees F (24 C), making it an excellent choice for outdoor weddings. Embrace the beauty of autumn by incorporating fall foliage into your portraits. Even a single tree with some color can create a stunning backdrop. Discuss your wedding date and portrait plans with your photographer to make the most of the fall colors.
While winters in Georgia are relatively short, they still offer a unique charm for weddings. Couples who want to get married during the winter months usually choose one of two options – a wedding in the mountains or at a greenhouse and garden such as West Milford Farm or Atlanta Botanical Garden. With temperatures ranging from a low of 50 degrees F (10 C) to a high of 60 degrees F (15 C), you can still enjoy an outdoor celebration. However, winter weddings require careful planning due to the early sunset. With the sun setting around 5 pm, it’s essential to schedule your portraits before then. If you’re having a late evening wedding, you may have some downtime between 5 PM and the start of the ceremony. Additionally, make sure to allocate sufficient coverage time for your photography.
The best time of year to get married in Georgia depends on your preferences and the atmosphere you desire for your special day. Spring offers blooming landscapes, summer provides ample daylight, fall boasts vibrant colors, and winter has its unique charm. Consider the weather, lighting, and your personal preferences to choose the perfect season for your Georgia wedding.
Remember, this guide is just a starting point. Consult with your wedding planner and photographer to ensure a seamless and unforgettable celebration.
